Lecture Wies De Graeve (Amnesty International)

‘To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity’

This quote by Nelson Mandela expresses the very essence of Amnesty International, an international non-governmental organization. This organization has been campaigning to end abuses of human rights since 1961.

The importance of standing for justice has become very clear these past few weeks. That’s why we are very happy to announce that Wies De Graeve, the CEO of Amnesty International Flanders, will give a lecture on the 4th of May on the functioning of Amnesty International. During this lecture he will also focus on the current international and Belgian human rights issues and the strategic development of research, advocacy and activism for greater human rights impact.

As CEO Wies De Graeve leads the secretariat of the human rights organization in Brussels. Before that, he was active for more than 10 years at the Flemish Peace Institute. In 2018, he published his first book ‘the right to be human’ in which he illustrates that ‘human rights’ is not just a concept, it is a powerful instrument to pave the way for more justice, equality and freedom.
